The Central Committee of the Iraqi Communist Party held its regular plenary meeting in Baghdad on Thursday and Friday, 2–3 July 2026.

The meeting opened with a minute of silence in tribute to the comrades and supporters who had passed away during the recent period, including the late dear Comrade Hamid Majid Mousa, former Secretary of the Party's Central Committee. The participants praised their achievements and the great sacrifices they made.

The meeting discussed the political developments in Iraq and the wider region and their possible outcomes. They renewed their condemnation of the U.S.-Zionist war of aggression against Iran and reaffirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples in light of the continuing brutal attacks against them. They called for the region to be spared wars and their devastating consequences, for the peoples of the region to be guaranteed the right to live in peace and security and enjoy freedom and democracy, and for the will of the Palestinian people to be respected through the establishment of their own independent national state.

The meeting also examined the implications of the formation of the new Iraqi government, noting that it remains burdened by the practices that have characterized its establishment and formation, as well as by the continuation of the ethno-sectarian power-sharing system (Muhasasa), which continues to generate crises.

Regarding the Iraqi government's recent measures to combat widespread corruption, the participants highlighted the serious dangers facing the country as a result of the persistence and deepening of this phenomenon. The meeting stressed that anti-corruption efforts should not be selective and must continue until all corruption cases—large and small—are exposed. It also called for confronting the ethno-sectarian power-sharing system, which it described as the breeding ground for corruption, and for the judiciary to fully perform its role in recovering stolen public funds and holding accountable those responsible for embezzling public money and causing harm to the people and the nation.

In another area, the meeting emphasized the need to meet citizens' essential demands and not place the burden of the financial crisis on ordinary people. It called for the adoption of a constructive economic policy that would reduce dependence on oil revenues and build a diversified and productive economy. The meeting also condemned all forms of repression, the silencing of voices, and restrictions on the freedoms of protest and expression.

The meeting stressed the necessity and importance of supporting the protest movement, responding to its demands, activating all means of peaceful struggle, and creating the conditions for building a broad popular political front opposed to the ethno-sectarian power-sharing system (Muhasasa) and corruption. They called for advancing the will of the Iraqi people toward the alternative national democratic project, leading to a state based on citizenship, the rule of law, strong institutions, and social justice. The meeting reaffirmed the Party's commitment to the people and to their legitimate demands for a dignified and secure life and better public services.

The meeting also reviewed the Party's work in its various aspects, the performance of its leadership, specialized bodies, and organizations. It expressed pride in the achievements made, including the recruitment of new members - particularly young people seeking hope and looking toward the future. At the same time, it reviewed shortcomings and deficiencies in the Party's work and discussed ways to improve performance and build cohesive Party organizations with broad grassroots connections.

The meeting placed particular emphasis on expanding outreach to broad segments of society, especially young people, students, and women.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing preparations for the Party's 12th National Congress, which is scheduled to be held on time.

In this context, the Central Committee called upon Party organizations, members, and friends to turn these preparations for the 12th National Congress into an opportunity to energize Party activities, raise morale, increase dedication, contribute actively to the popular movement, and revitalize the role of democratic and leftist parties, movements, and personalities in bringing closer the end of the ethno-sectarian power-sharing system (Muhasasa) and its destructive policies.

As the third and final phase of constructing the Party's new headquarters in Baghdad approaches, the Central Committee issued an appeal to Party organizations and members, as well as to all patriotic and generous citizens, to continue contributing financially so that the project can be completed on schedule. The Central Committee also expressed its deep gratitude to everyone who has supported this national project of building the “Party's Home — the People's Home”.

A detailed Communiqué on the meeting will be issued at a later date.
