The rapid developments witnessed in Syria have led to the total collapse of the regime after the opposition forces and armed factions took control of the capital, Damascus.

These developments come at a time when the region is witnessing wars and conflicts, casting heavy shadows on all countries and peoples, and are open to various possibilities, some of which may be ill-boding for the future. 

If it cannot be claimed that the change that has taken place in Syria is isolated from external interventions and agendas of regional and international powers, then this means that Syria is not yet safe, especially with the presence of extremist and terrorist forces, the ambitions and interests of neighbouring countries, and Israel's aggressive and expansionist plans which it has revealed by occupying the buffer zone and launching raids on sites inside Syria.

Our Iraqi Communist Party affirms its respect for the right of the Syrian people to determine their affairs and make free choices. It also stresses the importance of all Syrian political parties and forces working to spare the country further chaos and bloody conflicts, achieve security and stability, secure the return of the displaced, and establish the foundations of a democratic, pluralistic system of government based on citizenship, the rule of law, and social justice, by adopting comprehensive national dialogue and implementing the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

All forces and countries must also respect Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. Regional and international parties and the United Nations must work to ensure this, and compel the Zionist entity to respect the 1974 ceasefire agreement and stop its repeated attacks on Syria and its cities.

The Syrian people, after years of suffering, tragedies, and oppression, are eager to build a homeland in which they enjoy freedom, dignity, and peace; a homeland in which just law prevails.

 The Iraqi Communist Party strongly condemned the brutal Israeli onslaught on Lebanon and the air raids by the Zionist occupation army that were launched this morning and afternoon, and are still continuing, on many areas in the south and east of the country. They have claimed the lives of more than 270 people and 1000 injured, including children, women, paramedics and unarmed civilians, and have also caused a large displacement of the population in the southern and Bekaa Valley regions.

Comrade Raid Fahmi, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, said that "this brutal onslaught on Lebanon represents a dangerous escalation of the criminal war of genocide by the Zionist occupation state against the Palestinian people in Gaza, and comes amid threats of a military invasion of southern Lebanon. It threatens to ignite an all-out war in the region that will have dire repercussions on security and peace in the Middle East and the world."

He pointed out that "this dangerous escalation would not have happened without the absolute support for Netanyahu’s fascist government by the United States and its allies, enabling it to get away with impunity, and the absence of solidarity and pressing measures from the Arab countries, despite the crimes of genocide and war crimes committed by the Zionist occupation state against the Palestinian people, which are continuing for the twelfth month."

Comrade Fahmi stressed that “Iraqi Communists, during these difficult moments, stand firmly and resolutely alongside the fraternal Lebanese people and their patriotic forces in confronting this brutal Zionist aggression”. He called on the Iraqi patriotic and democratic forces "to express effective solidarity with Lebanon and its people”. He also called upon the Iraqi Government "to provide urgent health and humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people, and to act speedily on Arab and international levels, at the United Nations, to stop the Zionist aggression on Lebanon immediately and ensure the protection of the people of Lebanon and its national sovereignty."

 Since the announcement of this year’s L'Humanité Festival from 13-15th September 2024, preparations began for the Tareek Al-Shaab (People’s Path) Tent's participation at the festival. It comes in the year of celebration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi Communist Party. This year we will not only participate, but also celebrate an occasion that is close to the hearts of Iraqi communists and their friends. Therefore, the work of the Tent’s Preparatory Committee began early in order to organise a successful celebration. Plans were drawn up by various working groups which were formed to manage the different areas of organisation, including youth, media and logistics. We hope that all participants and visitors will spend a joyful time in the presence of comrades, friends and young people whose special participation will add to the celebratory atmosphere.

The invitation is addressed to a wide audience of Iraqis from all over the world, raising red banners for “a Free Homeland and a Happy People,” led by young people who are both party members and supporters. It is an occasion at which Iraqis from all diaspora countries meet and declare their support for the Iraqi Communist Party. As always, we will meet on Thursday 12th September, the eve of the Festival, to mark a long history of struggle and sacrifice.

Immediately after a successful weekend for the Tareek Al-Shaab Tent in 2023, the Party’s organisations outside the homeland that had participated were called upon to evaluate the organisational work and submit their reports in order to improve future planning. The Preparatory Committee has held regular meetings to ensure the most successful festival weekend for the Tent yet, and to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Party’s founding.

The Tent’s youth team invites all Iraqis to get involved in the build up to its celebrations by participating in the various working groups for organisation, promotion, setting up the Tent, setting up the equipment, sales and taking part in the cultural programme. The aim is for everyone to be able to create and work and at the same time enjoy the Festival’s cultural and political programme. It is an opportunity to meet young people from all over the world and enjoy musical performances from well-known bands and singers from Europe and around the world, as well as a whole host of other political and cultural activities and events.

In coordination between the Party's Media Office Abroad and the Tent’s media team, an advertising campaign is being produced to reflect the committees’ plans. Comrades, friends and youth are invited to participate in this year's Festival by sharing their regular reports and promotional films to encourage the widest engagement, interest and participation possible.

In preparation for the largest celebration outside Iraq, particularly on the year of the 90th anniversary of the Party's founding, the logistics team has gone to great lengths to ensure a smooth weekend for the Tent’s visitors. To deal with the problem of transportation from hotels to the Tent and vice versa, three buses have been booked. This is intended to overcome the transport difficulties due to the distance of the venue from the city of Paris. The team is coordinating with the youth groups, the Women's League and the Association of Communist Partisans to determine all requirements for the success of the celebrations and the Tent programme this year. In order to make traveling to the Festival site easier, the team recommends booking hotels in the immediate vicinity or in the same residential area to make accessing the buses easier.
